Putting Together Books

Print the book, single sided only (do NOT print on both sides).

Fold all pages along the dotted line in the center, except for the cardholder page (when applicable).

Place the folded pages in a laminating pouch. Two folded pages should fit in a single pouch with a gap between them. The cardholder page (if applicable) will use a whole pouch for itself.

Cut the cards along the lines.

Place the cards in a pouch, leaving space between each card.

A glue stick may be used to help the cards stay in place, but it will laminate just as well without glue.

Cut all of the laminated pieces apart, leaving a thin border of laminate on all sides to keep a water-resistant barrier.

Bind the book according to your chosen method, and apply the velcro dots.

As well, you will need a way to bind the books. Suggestion include:

  • Comb Binding Machine
    -with binding combs

  • Spiral Binding Machine
    -with spiral coils

  • Hole Punch
    -with yarn
    -or book binding rings
    -or shower clips

  • Stapler (this one is a bit trickier and will require more labor to keep pages in order, when necessary, but some parents have successfully used a mere stapler to bind the books).

In these parent provided images, you can see how they used a stapler to bind the book. This did affect page order, but this is not a big issue for many of my books. As well, this parent chose to have the cardholder page cut separately from the book, and that is fine! I prefer it intact, but I am not the one reading the copy you put together :)
